FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, including the awkward ones.
Is OtterTap free?
Yes. Every feature is free. We plan to show a small sponsor banner in the window and to sell a one-off $5 upgrade that removes it. See pricing.
Does it work in Roblox?
Yes. OtterTap sends ordinary mouse and keyboard input to whichever window has focus, and it works with Roblox on Windows. Click into the game first, then start OtterTap with its hotkey.
Will I get banned for using it?
We can't promise you won't. Many games, and many Roblox experiences, don't allow automation, and they can act on it however it's done. OtterTap's random timing makes clicks look more natural, but it does not make automation allowed and it is not designed to hide from anyone. Check the rules of each game before you use it. See safety and fair play.
Is it a cheat or an exploit?
No. It doesn't inject anything into a game or read its memory or files. It sends normal mouse and keyboard input, like a second pair of hands, and looks at the pixels on your screen. Whether a particular game allows that is up to the game.
Why does Windows or my antivirus warn me?
OtterTap is new and not yet signed by a recognised publisher, so Windows SmartScreen shows an "unknown publisher" message. Some antivirus programs are also wary of any tool that clicks and presses keys for you. Only download it from this website. We're working on signing the app. See the download page.
How do I stop it straight away?
Press the emergency-stop key, F8 by default. It works even if the OtterTap window is hidden or busy. You can also use the start/stop hotkey (F6 by default) or the Stop button.
Can it click while I use another window?
No. Clicks and key presses go to whichever window is in front, so the game needs to be the active window. OtterTap can't click a game in the background.
Why doesn't it click where I told it in my game?
Some games lock the mouse to the centre of the screen, for example in first-person view or with shift-lock on. A fixed spot on screen doesn't mean anything to those games. Use "wherever the mouse is" instead, or turn the lock off.
A screen trigger can't find my button. What do I do?
Use Test now to see the closest match score, then lower the strictness slider a little. Make sure your screenshot includes some detail (a flat block of one colour can't be matched), and that the game is at the same window size and UI scale as when you captured it. See the screen triggers guide.
Does it work in exclusive fullscreen?
The clicker and key presser do. Screen triggers read the picture on your screen, and a game in exclusive fullscreen can show up as black to them. Switch the game to windowed or borderless-fullscreen mode (most games, including Roblox, offer one).
Does it collect any information about me?
The app doesn't need an account and doesn't send anything about you anywhere. Your profiles are saved on your own computer. See the privacy policy for what the website does.
Is there a Mac, phone or tablet version?
No. OtterTap is for Windows 10 and 11 only, and there are no plans for phones or tablets.
Can I share my setup with a friend?
Yes. Export a profile to a single file and send it. Your friend imports it and gets your settings and trigger pictures. OtterTap checks imported files and refuses anything unexpected. Even so, only import files from people you trust. See game profiles.
Is it safe for kids?
If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before installing software, and check that the game you play allows automation tools. OtterTap collects nothing from you, but a tool that clicks for you can get an account in trouble if a game doesn't allow it.
Who is behind OtterTap, and is it connected to Roblox?
OtterTap is an independent tool. It is not made by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Roblox Corporation. Roblox is a trademark of Roblox Corporation. Use the contact page to get in touch.
