Guides › Game profiles
Game profiles
A separate setup for each game, so changing games is a dropdown and not a rebuild.
What a profile contains
- Auto clicker settings
- Key presser settings
- Screen trigger rules and their pictures
- Your start/stop and emergency-stop hotkeys
- Run limits, and a notes field for yourself
Only one profile runs at a time, so one game's triggers can never fire in another.
Working with profiles
The profile bar is at the top of the window.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| New | Make an empty profile. Names must be unique and up to 60 characters. |
| Duplicate | Copy the current profile, including its trigger pictures. A good way to start a similar game. |
| Rename | Change the profile's name. |
| Delete | Remove the profile and its pictures. OtterTap asks first, and it can't be undone. |
| Import / Export | Share profiles as a single file. See below. |
OtterTap remembers which profile you used last and opens it next time. Changes are saved automatically as you make them.
You can switch profiles only while OtterTap isn't running.
Sharing a profile
Export saves the current profile as a single .zip file, with its settings and trigger pictures inside. Send it to a friend. They click Import and choose the file.
- If a profile with the same name already exists, the imported one is named "Name (2)" instead of replacing it.
- OtterTap checks every imported file. It accepts only the profile settings and PNG pictures of a sensible size, and refuses anything else. A profile made by a newer version of OtterTap is refused too, with a message to update.
- Even so, only import profiles from people you trust. A profile can make OtterTap click and press keys, and its trigger pictures are images you haven't seen.
Because trigger pictures depend on the game's window size and UI scale, an imported profile may need its pictures recaptured to match on your screen.
Where profiles are stored
Profiles live on your own computer, in %AppData%\OtterTap\profiles. Each profile is a folder with a profile.json settings file and a templates folder of pictures. Nothing is uploaded. To back up everything, copy the OtterTap folder.
